Benaglio started his career with his hometown side Grasshopper-Club Zurich and played there for several seasons before moving to Germany to join VfB Stuttgart, but only managed to appear for the reserves. In 2005-06, he moved to Portugal's Nacional, soon beating competition from veteran Henrique Hilário, and further establishing as the Madeira side's undisputed first-choice after Hilário left for Chelsea. On 22 January 2008, Benaglio moved to VfL Wolfsburg. He made his debut on the 30th, helping his team advance to the quarter-finals of the German Cup, after a penalty shootout win over FC Schalke 04. He has since established himself as first choice for Wolfsburg and helped the Wolves win their maiden Bundesliga title during the 2008-09 season. |
